After growing up in Anderson, Indiana, Tom graduated from Indiana University School of Medicine in 1963. Following his post-graduate training, and serving two years in the U.S. Navy, he began the private practice of Nephrology and Internal Medicine in Indianapolis in 1969. He was co-founder of a 14 physician group in Indianapolis. He also completed a graduate Certificate of Biblical Studies at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School. He is father of four children. After retirement from medical practice in January 1999, he served as Global Outreach Pastor at East 91st Street Christian Church for 9 years. He started serving with FAME in September 2007. East 91st has been the home church to Tom, his wife Marty, and his family since 1976. He took his first short-term mission trip in 1984, a life-changing experience, and since then has lead many mission trips. His family has participated on many of these trips.
