A First…And I’d Like to Hear a Story

Earlier this week a phone call to a Midwest FAME partner, like you, went like this: I’d like to thank you for your generosity recently for the project in “Location in Asia” the construction on that hospital is progressing because of your partnership! said Jeff Coon.

FAME Partner: I wanted to participate in their remodel and expansion because my sister was treated at that hospital. That is how our family came to know about Jesus!

Stop, just a minute! Yes! you heard correctly; one of FAME’s faithful, generous partners living in the Midwest is supporting the ministry of FAME because their family said “Yes!” and became followers of Jesus through the ministry of FAME! That’s a first!

I get to hear stories of how people became connected to FAME as I travel all the time.

“Went on a Short-Term Trip”

“Someone spoke at our church”

“Met Bob Reeves in 1970 something”

“Looked online for someone doing medical work during COVID-19 around the world”

What is your story? I would love to know.

HOW DID YOU FIRST CONNECT WITH FAME?

Send your story, or short sentence to partner@fameworld.org

This FAME partner in Asia has been treating people in the name of Jesus for decades. Tens of thousands of people know and follow Jesus because of partnerships like yours.

Thank you for your willingness to say “Yes!” to FAME.

So FAME can say “Yes!” to global partners.

So more of the lost and hurting say “Yes!” to Jesus!

May Prayer Calendar

Thank you so much for your faithful partnership with FAME through prayer. We and our ministry partners are blessed to have so many around the world praying for the ministry of FAME.

With the recent passing of Dr. Charles Stanley, I found myself reading some of his older devotions that he had written. I came across one that I thought was such a good reminder of loving others. He wrote, Jesus spent His last evening before the crucifixion reminding the disciples of essential principles. Kneeling to wash their feet, He gave them a new commandment—to love one another. In fact, over the course of the evening, He would repeat that phrase five times (John 13:34-35; 15:12, 17). He emphasized the command because He knew it was not only critically important but also one of the toughest to obey.

Putting self-interest before the needs of others is what comes naturally. But since the believer’s old self has been crucified, God’s Spirit can live in and through him or her. Giving of ourselves on behalf of someone else fits who we are in Christ. In fact, we show God’s love best when we care for others—especially those who aren’t easy to love.

If you were asked what you find most attractive about God, wouldn’t you say it’s His love? His plan is to use His children to meet emotional, material, spiritual, and physical needs everywhere. So, God’s love should overflow from us to fill the empty hearts and hands of those in our sphere of influence.

This month, please partner with us in prayer for many of the volunteers that come to FAME to serve and to show their love to people around the world by giving of their time and talents here so that others around the world can be healed both physically and spiritually. FAME could not do all it does without the help of so many volunteers that come alongside us.

Please pray also, for our FAME scholarship recipients that are studying to become medical professionals. These International Christian students are all studying in their home country and after graduation will serve with a mission partner to provide medical and spiritual healing.

We also would like to ask for prayers for some new sustainable healthcare project grants that were approved at the last FAME Board of Directors meeting in April. Please pray that the necessary funding is raised for these projects and that once built, they will bring people to Jesus through medical evangelism.

Lastly, take time this Memorial Day to remember those who have sacrificed so much for our country, and pray for those that continue to serve.

Blessings in the coming month,

Early in the Morning While it Was Still Dark…

Early one morning, on my recent trip to Asia, your FAME Medical Mission partner picked me up at 5:00 am to go to the groundbreaking and cornerstone placement in the photo shown here. I’ll tell you why it was so early in a moment.

This visit was initially to see the completed clinic and church building you helped fund in 2020. The project construction began in January of 2020, and as you can imagine there were many obstacles, but I was able to visit this unique building and see evangelism happening on the First floor – the Clinic, AND on the Second floor – the Church Auditorium! What a great model of compassionate caregiving like Jesus AND sharing the gospel! But even though this building was completed in 2 years during an aggressive national shutdown for the pandemic; this medical mission is under intense scrutiny by government officials who would love to stop the spread of the gospel.

Once the caregiving begins in a country like this, favor grows among the community leadership because Jesus followers treat ALL people with value. But let’s get back to the early morning groundbreaking and cornerstone placement. In this country, Christian leaders who would obviously be connected to Christians from outside of their country could be targets of persecution. So that is why the event with my participation was done under the cover of darkness.

How exciting is it, that immediately after one Clinic/Church building is complete, this partner is breaking ground on another? Once this building is sharing the love and care of Jesus, favor will grow in the community; so this global partner had me at the ground breaking before dawn and back to my hotel to prevent interruption to the advanciment of medical evangelism.

YOU and YOUR generosity allow FAME to say “Yes!” to global partners like these…so that more people will say “Yes!” to Jesus!!

To Weak to……

Salencia was too weak to even get out of bed. Her husband and she were excited about their first child which she was expecting, but now they didn’t know what was wrong with Salencia, and if there was anything wrong with the baby.

They needed answers. They took her to a FAME partner clinic and the providers there were able to take blood for lab tests, but it was going to be 2 weeks before they could get results and know what was wrong. The good news is, they received the results and doctors gave quality care to her and the pregnancy continued to delivery of a beautiful baby girl!

The better news is, that BECAUSE OF GENEROSITY at the Night of Hope; that FAME partner clinic will have a new laboratory and results will be in hours, or days! Not weeks!

That is one of the projects that the “Yes! Initiative” at FAME’s Night of Hope will fund! But we also have another lab that has requested help to fund!

Access to the gospel, Access to healthcare are all FAME’s focus – but specifically access to answers for health questions can bring such hope! When a Mission Clinic can bring hope to those who have no hope because of unanswered medical needs – the DOOR SWINGS WIDE OPEN for them to hear the gospel!

When FAME partners can say “Yes!” to the question, “Can you help me?”

Because people like you said “Yes!”

More people say “Yes!” to Jesus!

Thank you for your partnership in bringing help and hope to the world through Medical Evangelism.

The Rolled Stone….

“…an angel of the Lord came down….and rolled back the stone and sat upon it.”   ‘He is not here; he has risen, just as he said.’ ”  Matthew 28:2,6

Jesus had already risen from the grave, the angel came to roll away the stone that blocked people from seeing that Jesus IS ALIVE!

So people can see that Jesus IS ALIVE…

…last month Bill participated in laying a cornerstone for a new clinic in Asia

…last week a FAME Medical team in Mexico taught women’s health lessons after treating hundreds

…the first patients were seen in a new Cardiac Care Clinic in Ghana

…supplies have been shipped to 50 countries so far this year!

The lack of access to healthcare is a barrier for people hearing the gospel- you and FAME roll away that barrier!  Anywhere there is poverty and a lack of the gospel, healthcare is usually lacking also. Vice Versa: Anywhere there is poverty and a lack of Healthcare, the Gospel is lacking also!

As you and your family celebrate the death and resurrection of Jesus this Easter weekend.  Be encouraged… YOU HAVE rolled away barriers that block people from seeing that Jesus is Alive!

He is Risen!

He is Risen Indeed!

And You have MADE THAT KNOWN AND SEEN to thousands upon thousands!

Thank you for your partnership!

This month please partner with us in praying for our FAME Board of Directors. The spring Board of Directors meeting will be held in mid-April and leading up to that we ask that you please pray for each of the board members that they have wisdom and are led by God as they make decisions for the ministry.

Pray also for our Annual FAME Night of Hope. This event will be celebrating stories of miraculous impact in nearly every time zone around the globe. Please continue to pray for the safety of these partners, for wisdom and discernment, and that through such hardship, people may turn to God and find Christ as their true Savior.

In reading an Easter devotion by Lysa TerKeurst, I was touched by her observations at the empty tomb and her total heart for Jesus. She ends her devotion with the following observations from Matthew 28:5-7 and prayers that go along with each part of scripture that I’d like to share:

“Do not be afraid,” — Dear God, I hand over to You those things that make me so afraid. Resurrect the parts of my faith that are squelched by fear.

“I know that you are looking for Jesus,” — God, when my soul is searching, may I know that the answer to every longing is found in You.

“He has risen,” – God, the fact that Jesus is risen should lift my head, my heart and my attitude. Help me live today as if I really believe this with every part of my life.

“just as he said,” — Dear Jesus, You keep Your promises. Show me how to live as though I believe that with every part of me. Help me trust You more, obey You more and resemble You more.

“Come and see,” — Jesus, You had the angels invite the women in to see for themselves that You had risen. You invite me into these personal revelations every day. Forgive me for sometimes rushing about and forgetting to come and see for myself … You, Your Word, Your insights.

“Then go quickly and tell his disciples,” —Jesus, I don’t want to be a secret-keeper with my faith. I want to be a bold and gracious truth proclaimer. For You. With You. Because of You. Me, whom You loved and redeemed.

Praying that this Easter is a prayerful and personal one for you as we remember Jesus and His love for us.

He has Risen!

Not Just a Load of Rocks!

Someone saw this picture of the dump truck full of rocks being delivered, and said, “what’s so exciting about that, it’s a load of rocks?”

That is not just a load of rocks. That is the fulfillment of many dreams of a Clinic in Kisumu Kenya!

Paul, a native of the Kisumu region of Kenya, has been working with hundreds of partners teaching health education and preparing for the ability to be ready for a clinic in their region through the Water, Sanitation, Hygiene (WASH) Ministry:

  • They dug a well.
  • Prepared the sight.
  • Acquired workers and arranged for materials.

Last year Mark Yeaton climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro to draw attention to the need and many people gave funds to provide the materials!

Last year many of YOU generously supported FAME and that helped provide the materials for building this clinic!

Yesterday, I got this photo below of a young man named William being baptized into Christ in Lake Victoria! The ministry building the Clinic is also saving lives for eternity!

Just rocks?

Makes me think of some words of Jesus:

“…rocks will cry out…”

“…upon this rock…”

“…house built on a rock…”

Because of you, a dump truck of rocks moved access to the gospel closer to the lost and poor by moving access to healthcare closer to thousands!

Stronger Together!

From the Mountains of Mexico to the barrios of Colombia, partnership brings the gospel closer to some of the poorest people.

Not long ago a FAME short-term medical and health education trip to Colombia included a pair of unlikely team members. The team was hoping to serve 500 people in Barranquilla, Colombia at the location of the future Community Health Center and saw over 800 individuals.

Part of the team was strengthened by 2 Medical Doctors from a Partner ministry in Mexico!

Did you catch that? FAME is partnering with a Husband and Wife Medical team in Mexico to support their clinics and the construction of a New Hospital – but THEY took time to strengthen the team in Colombia barrios!

Dr. Fuentes from Mexico

In the 50 years of FAME, it has become starkly apparent that places of poverty and great need are often places without Jesus. It has become additionally consistent that those same places have no access to healthcare, so hearts are opened because of the compassionate care of people who love Jesus. FAME partners can go where other traditional evangelism methods cannot go!

Being a Global leader in Partnership through Medical Evangelism is a core value that is acted upon continually by your FAME partners around the world. Just this week, over 5000 people heard the gospel because of partnership!

We are grateful for global partners who make us all Stronger Together!

We are grateful for YOU and YOUR PARTNERSHIP too! When we lift together, we are stronger!
