Ukraine/Indy 500 and FAME!

An unlikely partnership is sending help and hope from the Indy 500 to FAME partners in Ukraine.

Partnership is powerful, more powerful than a car that drives 220+ mph!  Let me explain:

Recently, FAME received word that the Indianapolis 500 medical facility had 18 Hospital beds/stretchers to donate to FAME.  These had been used for drivers, crew members, and others who needed medical care at the track.

At the same time, FAME scheduled a meeting to discuss a Container shipment of needed medical supplies including hospital beds/stretchers to be shipped to partners in Ukraine!

These very beds from the greatest spectacle in racing could help some of the world’s most vulnerable during a crisis larger than we yet know.

Additionally, another partner serving the people of U.k.r.a.i.n.e has given us 39 healthcare workers for whom to pray AND 6 which are in the most Eastern and vulnerable areas.  Can you just pray for them, even though we don’t include their names here – can you pray for the 39 FAME partner Workers in that country currently at risk?

Because of YOU and generous partners like you- FAME is able to respond to opportunities immediately to help those in the line of disaster, and in risky vulnerable places.

Thank you for your partnership that brings help and hope even to places of darkness.

Paralyzed, but Now Walking!

Maraiah lives 9 km away from a FAME Partner Hospital in India.  He is of the Yanadi people, who are among the poorest of all, mostly illiterate.  They live apart from other castes because of their different customs and fear.
For years Maraiah was the breadwinner for the family. But tragically he became totally paralyzed.  All his children left, and his wife attempted to care for him, but when she goes out for low-paying daily wages there is no one to take care of him.

His wife explained the extreme situation to the Project Manager of DLRH, Vincent, while Vincent was meeting some Christians nearby their remote village.  He was deeply touched and asked them to come to the David and Lois Rees Hospital. They didn’t have any money but he urged them to come.

The David and Lois Rees Hospital was named by the community leaders David and Lois served for decades eradicating leprosy in that region– YOU and FAME partnered with DLRH to build the facilities decades ago- and currently FAME is helping the next step to remodel and “re-purpose” this first-class facility in a way that will allow them to become fully self-supporting and self-sustaining allowing them to be independent and not need funding from out of country ever again!

They came the next day. Vincent introduced Maraiah to the DLRH doctor, who treated them without charging fees, prescribed the needed medicine. They could not afford them, so Vincent paid for them himself.
Maraiah is now able to stand up and take a few steps. He is under medication at home, continuing treatment and improving greatly. Vincent introduced Jesus to him, and many are praying for him.  His wife carries him partway to church because he and his wife now love Jesus.

Does this remind you of anyone?  “Go and report what you have seen and heard:  The blind receive their sight, the lame walk, those with leprosy are cleansed…and the poor are told the good news.”  Luke 7:22

Thank you for your partnership which makes stories like this possible!  You are partnering with hundreds of hospitals, clinics, and missions to BE LIKE JESUS bringing healing and hope to the world’s most vulnerable just like Maraiah.

Your Christ-like generosity is impacting millions!  If you would like to know more about this project in India click below:

Ukraine Urgent Need

“The situation in Ukraine is very unstable and fragile.” reports a FAME partner to Ukraine.  Can you consider helping FAME replenish our Emergency Fund because we just sent help to Ukraine? FAME attempts to keep an Emergency Fund ready for a swift response, and then keep it replenished.  Without delving into the political elements of the Ukrainian situation, let me tell you about this partner, and then what they are doing.

This Ukraine partner has 20 points of contact in West Ukraine and 19 points of contact in East Ukraine.  These points of contact are the people who are caring for and treating some of the most vulnerable, especially the elderly in Ukraine.  Here in the US, we don’t realize the abandonment that occurs in many countries for the elderly, this FAME partner brings help and hope daily.

Here’s the situation they explained:  The concern is that if an invasion occurs water, heat, electricity, internet, phone will be lost as well as access to funds in the bank.  Most people in Ukraine do not own their own vehicles, so public transportation (trains, buses, flights, etc.)  might also be impacted. Those in their care really have no choice at all but to stay put so most of the 39 workers are inclined to stay right where they are.  Please pray for their protection.

The Emergency Funds FAME just transferred is to cover an immediate shipment to every one of these 39 Health Care workers – they report that their shipping company seems to be able to deliver in just about any situation but they needed to move quickly!   FAME must stand with them as they courageously serve in the midst of hardship.  Their stateside contact shared, “I do not want them to feel abandoned or that we don’t care about them in such a desperate time.  God knows all of this, He sees and knows every one of our team, our pastors and churches, and our precious elderly and disabled.  He will not leave them, He will not abandon them.”

Thank you for your partnership, if you wish to respond to this Emergency you can go to www.fameworld.org/donate and choose Ukraine-Emergency Relief .  Any gift at this time will strengthen FAME’s ability to daily meet the needs of our Global Partners, just like we have for 56 Missions in the last twelve months, because of your generosity!

The Next Generation is Preparing

One of the Sustainable elements of your Impact through FAME is our Scholarship Program.  Students who are recommended by a FAME partner, make a commitment to study in their country, and serve the medical mission following graduation can qualify.  We thought you would like to get a glimpse of their locations, plans, and time of graduation!

That is your impact!  Their long-term potential impact is exciting- we are seeing it play out from previous scholarship recipients.  Here are two examples:

Honduras –  A 2004 Scholarship recipient is now the Director of the Medical Clinic he visited as a child.  Additionally, he is teaching in the School of Medicine in Tegucigalpa!

Kenya– the FAME Board just approved Phase One of many phases of a new Healthcare system in a remote and underserved region of that Country.  The lead Physician is Daniel Koitatoi, a recent graduate and FAME Scholarship recipient.

Dr. Daniel Koitatoi, Kenya

The Sustainability of what YOU are doing around the globe is advancing the Kingdom of God!

Thank you for your partnership!

Take More Naps

Take More Naps!

That’s what the email recommended to have an amazing 2022!  Well, that was number 16, before that there were excellent ideas:

  • Talk to yourself in a more encouraging way. There’s no one else like you alive on the globe today.
  • Write a “not to do list”.  –That caught my eye…

But the one that stood out was

  • Determine how you will impact other people in the world.  Be a world-changer!

You have ALREADY figured that out!  At least to some degree, because as you partner with FAME you impact thousands of the world’s most neglected, ignored, and hopeless people by bringing help and hope through medical evangelism.

Here’s how big your impact will be in 2022!!!

If tomorrow morning you received an email from EVERY PERSON YOU HELPED IN 2021 through FAME, and you decided to read each name and country for 5 seconds before you deleted the email.  It would take you 1380 hours, that’s 65 Days to read/delete the first Million emails!!!

That’s when you’d need to take more naps!

YOU ARE A WORLD-CHANGER!  YOU DO IMPACT OTHER PEOPLE IN THE WORLD.

You can mark that off your list to figure out for 2022- now you just need to figure out how to

  • Drink more water
  • Exercise first thing every morning

THANK YOU FOR YOUR PARTNERSHIP AND GENEROSITY IN 2021!  This next year of 2022 has more needs coming our way from around the world- all opportunities for you to do what you are already doing!  Being a world-changer!

Thank you, and God Bless you and your family in 2022!

January Prayer Calendar

The time has come again for the beginning of a new year. One of hope and promise. I recently ran across a quote from Charles Spurgeon that I felt was an appropriate goal for this coming year. As we make our New Year’s resolutions, may our utmost resolution be that we bless the Lord no matter our circumstances.

“I am sure that I may claim that the beginning of another year is a good time to begin blessing the Lord. For the mercies of another year, the forgiveness of another year, the provision, the instruction, the guidance, the supplies of another year, for the mercies of the year on which we enter with a good heart of hope, for all our fears which have been averted, for all our hopes which have been fulfilled, for all that we have learned, for all that we have experienced, let us carry out this happy resolution that, from this time forth, we will bless the Lord!” – Charles Spurgeon

Thank you so much for your faithful prayers for the ministry of FAME and our partners around the world. We find it a blessing to know that you are partnering with us each month and day in prayer. This month, please partner with us in praying for the following that are on each day of the January calendar:

  • FAME Board members as they continue to lead the ministry
  • FAME Sustainable Healthcare projects that were approved at the last FAME Board meeting and are underway or will be so soon. Please pray for the funding needed for each of these projects, that the construction process will go smoothly, and that through these projects, the love of Jesus will be shown through medical evangelism.
  • Our mission partners in Myanmar, India, and Haiti that continue to be under extreme pressure due to government control or civil unrest
  • Church visits that Executive Director, Bill Warren will be making
  • Volunteer groups that will be serving in the FAME warehouse, including a student volunteer group from Western Illinois University.
  • Mark Yeaton, who will be climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro during the middle of the month to help raise funds for a clinic in Kenya. Rich Nye of a local news station in Indianapolis, IN did a story about Mark and his climb that you can watch here. www.wthr.com/article/news/local/columbus-teacher-to-climb-kilimanjaro-to-raise-money-for-medical-clinic-in-kenya

Blessings in the coming year.

My Amish Friends

My Amish Friends, most of whom won’t get this email 🙂 , celebrate Epiphany.  For a number of years our family lived with many Amish farms next to and near our land and home.

They were a joy to know, and one of the fun celebrations for their community is the Celebration of Epiphany – 12 days after Christmas – celebrating the arrival of the Wisemen to see Jesus.

It is a celebration of the first Gentiles to worship Jesus – a message of hope that He came to ALL PEOPLE,  as the angels said about the GOOD NEWS OF GREAT JOY!

Wow!  The Wisemen came from the East.  Now YOU can partner with FAME and send help and hope to the North, South, East, and West to ALL PEOPLE!

The word “epiphany” though is used in English to mean “A sudden and striking realization!”

Many years ago, when I was pastoring a church in Indiana; I had an “epiphany!”  I had a sudden and striking realization that our church’s partnership with FAME didn’t impact one country, one continent or one people – FAME impacts ALL PEOPLE  with the GOOD NEWS OF GREAT JOY!

In 2021 YOU sent HELP AND HOPE to 73 Global Partners in 43 Countries – that’s a continuation of the Gifts the Wisemen gave, that’s a continuation of the Gift God gave to the Wisemen!

Maybe you can have an “epiphany – a sudden and striking realization” that some of the best use of your gift-giving can be through FAME – to send help and hope in a way that for ever $1 you give to FAME 2 people will HEAR THE GOOD NEWS!

Thank you for your partnership- and could you end 2021 with an “Epiphany Gift” to bring help and hope to the world’s most vulnerable?

Blessings,

It’s Over!

Sometimes when it’s over, it’s over!

This was the year the Christmas tree didn’t quite make it to Christmas day. (Yes, those are the needles on the floor!)  For many of us, we spend weeks, and some of you, months preparing for Christmas, but all-of-a-sudden, the 26th hits and it’s over!

The tree flies out the front door, the decorations head to the attic, the poinsettia goes to the compost pile (I know some of you still have kept one alive from 2010), and I probably should go ahead and throw away the tree lights since they won’t work next year anyhow!

So when Christmas is over for us, there is one thing that we at FAME have been grateful for year after year!  The Spirit of Giving by so many never stops.  Year-round generosity is common for SO MANY OF YOU!

Thank you for your spirit of Christmas, your spirit of giving that is year-round!

It’s a good thing because the needs of our global partners aren’t seasonal.  Hunger, disease, illness, tragedies are year-round too!

In a rural mountain village, a young boy was attempting to cut down a tree to provide for the cooking fire for his family.  A slip of the ax, and he was cut severely and bleeding dangerously.  Just 2 years ago, this emergency would have been a life-threatening situation.  But because of YOU, there is a small clinic within half-hour travel for him and his family.  He was treated, protected from infection, and is on his way to perfect healing – again let me say, BECAUSE OF YOU,  and your spirit of Christmas that is year-’round he is healing!

As you pack up Christmas this year.  Thank you for not packing away your IMPACT through generosity!

Happy New Year and May God Bless you for your generosity!

Blessings,

Have You Lost Someone This Year

So have we.  My mom, our brother-in-law Tom, a daughter-in-law’s grandpa, other cousins, an Aunt….  It seemed like there needed to be a way to honor them all.

Below is a way you can honor a loved one you’ve lost in this past year or two.

This will be the first Christmas without both of my parents, they lived into their 90’s so their losses were sad but not tragic. They will be missed.

One of the things they were passionate about was helping people globally.  As children and teens, my brothers and I met dozens of missionaries around our dining room table and at the events we attended.

One country which stands out for me was Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe). We met many folks who served there, and I specifically remember my dad arranging projects for Zimbabwe.  Jim and Joyce Frasure, Ziden and Helen Nutt, Dale Marshall, Dennis Pruett, the Pembertons, Bob and Rosella Reeves, became friends in my parent’s home.

In Zimbabwe, there is a hospital that is so remote that many staff must travel 100 miles (5 hours in that region) to find quality appropriate housing.  They are building Staff Housing Accommodations and naming the facility in Memory of FAME’s first Executive Director Bob and Rosella Reeves – so why not fully fund this housing with memorial gifts?

So, my brothers and I have partnered with my parent’s church Central Christian Church Fort Smith Arkansas and FAME to send some help and hope to Zimbabwe this year.  In Zimbabwe, the Mashoko Christian Hospital is in dire need of staff housing.  This Staff Housing Gift through FAME will be in Memory of Harv and Marilyn Coon by Central, our families and WHOEVER YOU CHOOSE to honor!

You can watch a video about this project HERE or read about it here – Zimbabwe-Project-sheet-Housing.pdf

If you are interested, you can join us in this memorial Hospital Staff Housing by going to www.fameworld.org/donate  and as you give choosing the Reeves Project Fund- Sustainable Projects, place their name in the Memory/Honor of section and write Mashoko Memorials in Comments.  In January we will email a special edition of FAME’s E-News which will share those Memorial Gifts!

You may have lost a dear family member or friend this year, their memory can live on at this hospital where people are treated in the name of Jesus and hear a message of hope.

Emergency Delivery

It was a middle-the-night Emergency Birth, No Clinic, No Hospital, no Pre-Natal unit – – the mother and father were traveling and came to a small remote village!  Tragically, the only place that they could find for this newborn to be delivered was a makeshift delivery area in a barn. This may sound like the Christmas story, and it is.

But that is not the only family who have had less-than-adequate facilities for the arrival of their newborn- even now around the world!

But because of you and your generosity, thousands of babies have been born and will be born with facilities that make for safe deliveries and improved care for any type of emergency.

Thank you for your generosity, providing global partners with what they need to give care in the name of Jesus – because it was Jesus who came into the world vulnerable, and under less than perfect conditions in order to bring help and hope to the world’s most vulnerable.

Thank you for your partnership!
