Trip to Thailand

January 12-28, 2017, Estimated Cost $3500

FAME Medical Clinics and Pastoral Conferences

There are over 150,000 people who have fled Myanmar (Burma) in the last thirty years. Thailand has opened its borders to these who were seeking refuge.

Many of the refugees are from the minority groups of Karen and Karenni who fled Myanmar as a result of conflict between the government and insurgent groups. These tribal communities have experienced abuses such as forced labor, arbitrary executions, and destruction of food crops. Many villages were completely burned to the ground which forced the Myanmar people to relocate.

The Thai government permitted refugees fleeing conflict to stay in camps and receive basic humanitarian assistance delivered by private relief agencies. Asian Christian Services has been working with refugees in the cities of Mae Sot and Mae Sai camps. Mae Sot is 200 miles directly east of Yangon, Myanmar just inside the Thai border. Mae Sai is in the Golden Triangle in far north Thailand where Myanmar, Laos and Thailand meet.

Simon Thaung, from Asia Christian Services, has been a key servant in ministering to the refugees in Thailand. Through Simon’s leadership, there has been pastoral training implemented, physical and spiritual needs met, in addition to churches being constructed in these areas. Josiah Aung, from Asian Children’s Mission outside of Yangon, will also be working side by side with Simon and the FAME team in both of these locations.

In January 2017, the FAME team will spend time working in both refugee camps in providing hands on medical care as well as health education. In addition, a conference will be held with the emphasis on teaching pastors and church leaders.

The plan is to fly directly to Chiang Mai and then go north to Golden Triangle and return south to work at Mae Sot.

The team needs all types of medical personnel including providers, chiropractors, physical therapists, pharmacist, nurse, dentist, etc. Along with the medical people, logistics personnel are needed to do much of the ministry in the medical camps and assist in teaching. Two or three church leaders/pastors who can teach others are needed for the pastor’s conference.

Psalm 146:7,9 summarizes the mission: “He upholds the cause of the oppressed and gives food to the hungry. The Lord watches over the alien and sustains the fatherless and the widow.”

Plan now to partner with us in this challenging and rewarding outreach.
