FAME Statement of Faith
We believe the scriptures to be the inspired word of God.
We believe in Jesus Christ, the only begotten Son of God. He was born of a virgin, lived among men, was crucified for our redemption and rose the third day for our justification. We believe that He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and His kingdom will know no end.
We believe that the church is the body of Christ on earth and consists of all those who have accepted His grace and have been born of water and the spirit. We believe the church is a divine institution to which God has committed the message of reconciliation for all nations. We believe that we are saved by grace through faith. That salvation is appropriated through faith in Jesus Christ, repentance from sin, and baptism into Christ for the remission of sins. We believe that it is our duty to value all human life, which God has created in His own image, and to alleviate pain and disease by providing medical assistance to those who are suffering. Because of our high regard for human life, FAME does not participate in abortion or proactive taking of human life.
FAME History
A STORY GOD BEGAN
On November 10, 1970, Judge Milford Anness walked into the courthouse in Columbus, Indiana and left with the incorporation papers for the Fellowship of Associates of Medical Evangelism — FAME.
But the vision had begun earlier in the heart of Dr. Dennis Pruett, who believed God could use medical care to open doors for the Gospel around the world.
FAME’s first project took shape in Madrapakkam, India, where Dr. Pruett and Judge Anness partnered with missionary Art Morris to build a hospital serving more than 35,000 people suffering from leprosy in southern India. Soon after, Dr. Bob Reeves joined FAME as Executive Director and helped bring the project to completion.
Under Bob’s leadership, FAME grew from a single hospital project into a global ministry. By the late 1990s, FAME had helped establish 70 medical and ministry facilities in 29 countries, including hospitals, clinics, feeding centers, churches, and mobile medical units.
A GROWING MISSION
In 2001, FAME moved its headquarters to Indianapolis, first locating at Kingsway Christian Church and later establishing its current warehouse and ministry center on Southeastern Avenue.
What began in a borrowed office with no staff, donors, or funding has become a global network of churches, volunteers, medical professionals, and mission partners serving around the world.
Today, FAME has partnered with more than 100 mission organizations in over 50 countries, supporting nearly 250 sustainable medical evangelism projects, shipping life-giving supplies, and sending dozens of short-term teams. Each year, more than 2 million people receive medical care and hear the message of Christ through these partnerships.
A NEW SEASON AHEAD
On September 11, 2012, Bill Warren began serving as FAME’s Executive Director. Reflecting on the past thirteen years, Bill recently shared:
“I had no idea what God had in store. I have met extraordinary people, built lasting friendships, visited dozens of mission partners and hundreds of churches. Kelly and I have been blessed beyond measure to be part of this great work. God truly does immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine.”
After much prayer and thoughtful planning, Bill has shared with the board that he plans to retire on December 31, 2027.
To ensure a strong and healthy transition, FAME has begun the search for its next Executive Director. The new leader will work alongside Bill during a planned transition period prior to his retirement in 2027, helping ensure continuity and momentum for the mission.
This role will guide the organization’s global partnerships, oversee operations and fundraising, and help strengthen the growing network of churches, donors, volunteers, and mission partners who make medical evangelism possible.
The Mission Continues
Leadership transitions are never about one person — they are about the continuation of the mission.
As Bill shared:
“My hope and prayer is that the work of FAME will continue to grow and flourish as long as there are those who need to hear the Gospel and receive compassionate medical care.”
For more than fifty years, God has used FAME and partners like you to heal the sick and share the hope of Christ.
And the story is still being written with your help and God’s Hand.
