Recently, I received a message from our friends and partners, Mike and Jean Propp, in the Philippines. You probably saw that an earthquake struck the Philippines, and they were busy responding to needs created by the disaster.

As I read their update, my mind immediately went to another earthquake recorded in Scripture. In Acts 16, Paul and Silas sat in a Philippian jail after being imprisoned for sharing the gospel. Then the ground began to shake.

The earthquake opened the prison doors, but more importantly, it opened the heart of the Philippian jailer. What looked like a disaster became an opportunity for the gospel. Before the night was over, the jailer and his household had come to faith in Christ.

It struck me that this earthquake happened in the Philippines, and the story in Acts involved a Philippian jailer (named after different Philip’s separated by 2000 years).

While separated by centuries, the lesson is the same: God often uses difficult circumstances to open doors that might otherwise remain closed.

Mike and Jean know something about that.

They originally moved to the Philippines to start a Bible college. But as they lived among the people, they began seeing children in desperate situations. The need was impossible to ignore. What started as one ministry calling expanded into another, and Village of Hope was born—providing homes, care, and the hope of Christ to vulnerable children.

Years later, they saw another need. People needed access to healthcare.

That’s why FAME is partnering with Mike and Jean to build a clinic at Village of Hope. The previous clinic facility was destroyed by another disaster, a typhoon. Today, a new clinic is being rebuilt to serve children, families, and communities in the surrounding area.

Thankfully, this recent earthquake did not damage the new clinic under construction. But it does serve as another reminder of why ministries like this matter.

Disasters expose needs. They create opportunities to serve. They remind us that people need more than relief—they need hope.

That is what YOU make possible every day.

Whether it is a clinic in the Philippines, a hospital in Africa, an ambulance in a refugee community, or medical supplies reaching a partner halfway around the world, God continues to use practical acts of care to open doors for the gospel.

Sometimes those doors open because of a conversation.

Sometimes they open because of a medical need.

And sometimes, as Scripture reminds us, they even open because the ground begins to shake.

Thank you for helping bring care and the hope of Christ to people around the world.
