She had been riding on the back of a motorbike when it was struck by a car.

The young mother was pregnant.

By the time she arrived at the Ewaso Ngiro Clinic in Kenya, while a FAME team was there, she was concerned about her injuries. But you can imagine the question that mattered most to her:

Is my baby okay?

At the clinic, an ultrasound technician was able to examine her unborn child.

And there he was. A little boy. Heart beating! He was okay.

Sometimes, what you can see changes everything.

We’ve said before that you can’t treat what you can’t see. That’s why diagnostic equipment and the trained people who know how to use it can be so important at a Point of Care.

But that day, the ultrasound provided something else, too.

Reassurance to a frightened mother.

This is what happens when quality healthcare is accessible where people live. A clinic becomes more than a building. It becomes a place people can turn when something happens and they need help now.

And here’s something I’ve been thinking about.

Right now, sitting in the FAME warehouse, is another ultrasound machine.

Where will it go?

Soon it will be shipped to one of our global partners and arrive at another Point of Care. And someday, another mother may walk through the door frightened and uncertain and because the right equipment is there, she’ll be able to see what she couldn’t see before.

Another diagnosis can be made.
Another question can be answered.
Another Moment of Care can happen.
