It’s amazing how one word can tell an entire story.

Recently, one of our ministry partners in Malawi shared a moment that has stayed with me.

Esther Wingfield was helping during an eye clinic where people were trying on reading glasses. They had boxes of donated glasses, caring volunteers, and patients waiting hopefully for the chance to read again.

What they didn’t have was a reading eye chart.

So one of the doctors reached for the closest thing available.

His personal Bible.

One by one, an elderly woman tried different pairs of glasses. She would put them on, look down at the page, shake her head, and try another pair.

Finally…

She found the right ones.

Her face lit up.

She turned toward the translator and began speaking excitedly. Esther couldn’t understand the language, but she heard one word repeated over and over.

“Bible.”

No one needed to translate that.

The woman wasn’t celebrating a pair of reading glasses.

She was celebrating that she could read God’s Word again.

I smiled when I heard that story because it reminded me that Moments of Care are often much bigger than the care itself.

Sometimes a simple pair of reading glasses restores something we didn’t even realize had been lost.
