I’d like to introduce you to someone I’ll call Florence.
Florence is 27 years old.
She and her husband are raising two young children on Fuga Island, a small island off the northern tip of Luzon in the Philippines. If you looked at a map, you might think help is close by.
But maps don’t tell the whole story
Late in her third pregnancy, Florence suddenly began experiencing severe complications. Her village leaders immediately began coordinating help. The mayor’s office mobilized transportation, community leaders stepped in, and every available resource was put into action.
Because Fuga Island is separated from the mainland by open water, reaching medical care isn’t as simple as calling an ambulance.
The rescue team first traveled nearly 42 kilometers by boat to the mainland. From there, they continued another hour and a half by road to Charles W. Selby Memorial Hospital in Aparri.
As the village leadership had searched for a hospital on the mainland willing and able to receive Florence, one answer stood out above all the others.
“Yes!”
Without hesitation, Charles W. Selby Memorial Hospital prepared its operating room and medical team before the rescue boat even reached shore.
As I heard that story, I couldn’t help but think about another journey.
More than forty years ago, missionary Charles Selby realized that many families in northern Luzon didn’t simply need better healthcare, they needed healthcare they could actually reach
That vision became Aparri Christian Hospital.
Today, nearly three decades later, that same hospital is 100% Filipino managed and operated, serving thousands of patients every year while sharing the love of Christ through compassionate healthcare. It is exactly the kind of sustainable ministry FAME hopes every partner becomes.

Yet one truth remains.
Healthcare is only as accessible as the journey required to reach it.
That’s why location is so important.
FAME is strategically working with global partners to move access to healthcare and the gospel closer to millions! Whether in Myanmar, Thailand, the Dominican Republic or the Philippines.
It continues today because faithful partners like you continue saying “yes!” So that global partners can say “yes!” so more people say “Yes!” to Jesus!
Thank you for being part of that story
