It was the final day of clinics, and every community visited that week had been a first-time location for your FAME team. That morning, the plan was to visit two villages close together before wrapping up the week. But the first clinic day became fuller and longer than expected—in the best possible way. More people came. More care was needed. More opportunities opened to encourage people through medical care, prayer, worship, and the Gospel.
By the time the team packed up, it would have been completely reasonable to head back to camp. It had been a long week, a good week, and a lot had already been accomplished. But one of the national Doctors felt strongly that the team should still continue on to the second village. So they did.
When they arrived, they set up around a small church and waited. At first, nobody came. The team wasn’t impatient or frustrated. People talked, rested, and enjoyed an unhurried moment together. Eventually, a few people trickled in and were cared for, prayed with, and encouraged.
Then a woman arrived on foot, obviously ill and in pain. Her abdominal pain had become so severe she could no longer ignore it. After examining her, the team recognized symptoms consistent with an intestinal infection. They were able to give her pain medication, fluids, and antibiotics through an IV right there in the village.
Over the next hour, her entire countenance began to change. The strain in her face eased. Color returned. Her conversation became lighter. And eventually, so did her smile.
As the clinic ended, several team members drove her home over rough, dusty roads. During the drive, she explained that earlier that morning, her husband had gone searching for a vehicle to take her for medical help. One car was broken down. Another had no fuel. Every option failed.
At the very moment she had run out of strength and resources, a free medical clinic arrived in her village.
Your FAME team left deeply moved by the reminder that God sees the one person in need. What could have easily been the end of a long week became a divine appointment. That day, help came directly to her doorstep, and through your partnership, she experienced not only medical care, but the compassion of Christ.
